Project Updates
The various business units have projects and ventures at different levels of establishment and execution. The following is an overview of traction and progress thus far:
1. Electoral Management and Consulting
In the previous financial year Africore Trade executed 5 corporate elections. These are corporate governance related elections meant to usher in new Boards of Trustees as per the Rules of the contracting entity, through a democratic and credible process of electing new Board members. Our electoral solutions have helped to establish credible Boards of Trustees of several medical aid and pension schemes.
Africore Trade is contracted by The Public Rail Authority of South Africa (PRASA) to provide strategic advisory support services to the executive team, in particular the CEO. A high level team has been deployed to assist in the integration of entities and systems from the previous structures into the new rail authority. The project is ongoing and has been extended twice.
Africore Trade is prospecting for electoral business from African countries which have democratic elections and/or referenda scheduled to take place in 2010 and 2011. Because of topographical and infrastructural challenges on the African continent, Africore Trade has teamed up with companies providing defence solutions, products and services to offer mobile command and control solutions, terrestrial and satellite communication, surveillance systems, safe data transmission devices and solutions, process monitoring devices, voter ID verification devices, tents for temporary voting/voter registration stations and much more. Regardless of the worrying but prevalent trend of rigged elections, Africore Trade continues to explore methods to uphold the integrity of elections in Africa.
2. Humanity Projects
The Humanity projects include work being done to launch an international magazine on humanitarian courses, news, personalities etc. Africore is in discussion with several interested individuals and entities to partner in the publishing and distribution of the magazine. The magazine is meant to be a collector's item, a lively record of humane gestures and exchanges by people from all over the world. Africore is also gearing to launch an audio-visual series on African wisdom touching on humane values and communal outlooks of African societies throughout the continent. There are many other spin-off ventures that are to be magnified as the Humanity chapter of Africore grows.
3. Hospitality and Leisure
Africore is finalising the design and manufacture of personal hospitality and leisure stations at various transport confluence areas. The plan is to ensure that where people have time to spare whilst waiting for transport, such time is engaged through hospitality and leisure services, on a personal level. This is a very exciting proposition from Africore that will be extended throughout the continent.
4. Visual Arts
Having traversed the continent with a clear intention to pioneer governance services, we discovered the continent in its varied and significant modes of living. The Africore Galleries is a meagre embodiment of our discovery. The Gallery has access to more than 3000 pieces of premium West African art. It has in the past attracted loyal corporate and individual art buyers of different tastes. Whilst it a skin of our website, it promotes African talent in its modest appeal and radiant expressions, which is our continent at its best.
5. Property Development
The Africore team has teamed up with an established property development company to source development opportunities in far outlying areas like small rural towns to establish a footprint of modern shopping centres, lifestyle centres and malls, where appropriate. The idea is to contribute towards rural towns' development, in line with the government's thrust of urbanising the hinterland. In addition, Africore has also teamed up with an established property/facilities management company to provide property support services, mainly for college and/or university student residences and/or apartments.
6. Mobile Mentor
As a licensee for Africa and the Middle East, Africore has embarked on a process of introducing mobile mentor services through network operators in South Africa and the continent. Through Mobile Mentor, Africore provides one-on-one premium mentoring sessions for high-end phone users to understand and use their devices better. Africore also trains mentors to be deployed in the sales channels of the network operators and/or service providers; and establishes a general public mentoring call centre services; and introduces an online portal for direct access by cell phone users.
7. Rail Engineering and Consulting
In partnership with other entities and individuals Africore is acquiring appropriate rail engineering premises to provide mechanical engineering services to Metro-rail for the maintenance of its rolling stock, and the refurbishment of its old stock. Rail engineering is an area of business that will enjoy more investment from governments as there are moves to return to rail as the primary mode of cheaper public transportation. Africore is positioning itself in this specialised engineering area.
8. Africore Investments
On the investments side Africore has equity stakes in Saab Grintek Defence, Unkonka Security and Consulting Services and in Amathuli Investments. Africore has also invested in property and continues to explore opportunities for investments including stock/commodity trading. When all the above stated entities and business ventures are fully operational, the Africore team will spend most of its time on investments and on wealth creation and retention projects.
The Africore Group is premised on 8 pillars of business areas, and it has its work and its future neatly cut out for its team, employees, partners and associates.
